The middle-western part in Kyushu and the sea of Hyuga can be
mentioned as an active area of the seismic activity. In the middle-western
part in Kyushu, the seismic activity steady on the sea of Amakusa,
Unzen, the north of the sea of Ariake, the outskirts of Kumamoto
city, and the coast of the sea of of Yatsushiro is seen, and also
in the northwest part of the Kagoshima prefecture, the earthquake
of M6.5 in March,1997 and aftershock of the earthquake of M6.3
in May still continue. In the area of the sea of Hyuga along East
Coast in Kyushu,the Philippine Sea Plate has sunk toward the bottom
of Kyushu, and the seismic activity is very active.
